How to increase the traffic of your blog with Pinterest?
Why is traffic so important?
Traffic is the attention your page receives, with it, you achieve visibility , clicks on the advertising you have on your website / blog and ultimately: readers, subscribers, authority and customers.
In the digital world, traffic depends on experiencing a lot ,not all serve the same methods.
This is exactly where Pinterest comes in. It’s an incredible digital tool that helps to generate the right kind of traffic for all blogs, no matter how niche their offerings. Be warned, though – succeeding through Pinterest requires patience and hard work. Only then will you begin to see the kind of results that can take your blog from blah to brilliant!
What is Pinterest?
It is a platform that helps you save any interesting information you get on the web.
In fact its name in Spanish is the union of the word pin (tack) interest (interest), if you ever used a cork where you put photos of things you liked or some interesting news, Pinterest is the digital version of that.
It is not a social network !
There are 3 characteristics that differentiate it from a social network:
- It works like a search engine .
- There is no direct interaction between followers, as happens with Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
- To your surprise it is not necessary to have millions of followers to achieve our goal of creating traffic. (This I explain to you more ahead)
Statistics that you will love.
When I started reading about Pinterest, I came across this information that caught my attention:
Now I ask you:
Do you know how long our content lasts on social networks?
Prepare to be surprised
If your content is not shared , your life on social networks is as follows:
As a result, Pinterest will display your content in the smart feed for up to 3 whole months. The same pin will be re-pinned and saved on several other boards multiple times, thereby helping to increase its lifespan on the platform.
A pin that you published a year ago, can still send a lot of traffic to your website. Amazing!
Did you think that’s all? We’re just getting started!
All that traffic is completely free !!!
For new bloggers and entrepreneurs who do not have enough capital, this is incredible, because you can start promoting your website organically without having to spend on advertising.
If you’re just starting and you still do not have enough income, spending on advertising is not easy, so you have to take advantage of everything that can be free, and that’s where Pinterest comes in.
I assure you, you will see how the traffic on your website / blog increases in a short time.
How to start using Pinterest to increase traffic to your website
The power of Pinterest
Pinterest is really a powerful tool, many American bloggers know and use it.
For newbies, it is super useful to begin to grow and make us known and one of its wonders is that it is not so fundamental to have thousands and thousands of followers.
It is important to think of Pinterest as a search engine. What this means is that if your pin, any pin, has the right keywords in its description along with a memorable and professional-looking image that appeals to your audience, the pin is more likely to be re-pinned several times. This will increase its visibility within Pinterest’s ”search engine”.
Do not misunderstand me, increasing followers is important , and the idea is to grow, but it is a job that requires time.
If you continue to maintain as well as build upon a sound and consistent Pinterest strategy, the visibility of your pins will continue to increase on the platform and drive an exponential volume of traffic to your blog or website.
That makes this wonderful tool, so loved by bloggers and companies.
Basic strategies to start step by step
Step 1. Open an account.
If you do not have an account on Pinterest, the first thing is to sign up, you can use your Facebook account, Google or simply your email.
Step 2. If you already have a Personal account on Pinterest, change it to an account for companies.
The second step is to change your personal account, to an account for companies.
This is necessary to have access to useful tools that will help you with the monitoring of your company / blog’s Marketing.
At this point, it is essential to write an excellent description on your profile, with keywords on the subject of your blog, place the link to your website and have a picture of yourself or your logo on the profile.
Using a business page or company account offers several advantages of its own. It offers more features to manage your page, monitor page visits, access analytics to review the performance of current puns and develop the right strategy to identify pins that are more likely to outperform the current ones.
It also gives you access to:
Pinterest analytics. With the help of analytics, you will be able to successfully monitor the performance of your pins and thereby review the progress of your Pinterest account.
You also have access to the statistics of each Pin you post. This way you can see if that pin is doing the job.
And finally you have access to the Rich Pin or detailed Pins which takes us to the next step.
Step 3. Rich Pin or detailed pins.
They are like the DNA of a pin, it is all the information that the pin can provide. There are 4 types of detailed pins.
- A good example of a detailed pin are the recipe pins, you’ve probably seen one where you specify the step by step of a recipe.
- The second detailed pin is to promote or sell a product, with this information, if there is an update in the price of the promoted product, that pin is updated immediately.
- The third detailed pin is for apps, they allow the user to install an app directly from the image only valid for iOS phone.
- The fourth detailed pin is the one that interests us most to the bloggers, the detailed pin for articles , this sample that is the post of the image, the author and web page where that information is hosted.
The best way to configure the detailed pin in WordPress is by downloading the Yoast plugin.
Check this post where I explain step by step to enable Rich Pins in WordPress and the Blogger Platform .
Once you have completed the previous step, all you have to do is log in to your Pinterest account, select settings, go to the Rich Pin option and validate the detailed pin.
This will automatically convert the pins you upload to Pinterest with your url, in a detailed pin.
Setting the detailed pins helps your page look more professional , but goes further, also allows your pin to appear more frequently in the search engine and on the home pages, giving greater visibility to your content.
Step 4. Optimize your boards.
Create boards and be consistent with them, according to the niche of your website / blog.
For example: my subject is travel, photography and digital entrepreneurship, my public boards are dedicated to everything that speaks of these issues.
What you should take into account to create board:
- The name of each board should be focused on the theme of your website , use the Pinterest search engine to obtain the ideal keywords.
- Write the description focused on your keywords, visualize your boards as a marketing channel, you can use 1 or 2 Hashtag
- It is important to have a special board with the name of your blog, where all the content of your blog goes.
If you were already a Pinterest user with a personal account and you kept DIY recipes or tips on your boards, you do not have to erase those boards, just place them in secret mode and you can continue saving things that interest you, but that do not go along with the theme of your page.
The recommended number of boards is 10 and up and each board must have at least 20 pins to start.
Remember your profile is the face your company or your website you have to make a good impression from the beginning.
Step 5. About the Pins: Number of pins to publish
This is a fundamental step to grow on Pinterest and bring traffic to your web / blog, create your images and redirect to your page.
There is a rule that explains that you must publish 20% of your content and 80% content of the others, the famous pareto law.
After reading a lot about that rule and trying it, I found a recommendation that breaks with that premise.
So I got attached to it
The idea is to see our content, right! so I prefer to pin 80% of my content and 20% the content of the people I follow, related to my topic.
That yes, it is essential that those pins that we save from other users are pins that meet the characteristics of which we have discussed in this post:
- Valid URL
- Portrait image with a minimal design
- Rich pins
The best recommendation I can give you, is that you do your own tests, each blogger has a different experience, see how it works for you, it is the only and best way to succeed with Pinterest.
Step 6. Design of the Pins.
Not only do your posts itself have to be of significant quality and loaded with information, but the images itself must be of a high resolution and remarkably appealing. It helps to use high-contrast images with a relatively neutral colour palette for a clean finish.
I recommend that you think about the colors of your brand, think about being cohesive, that users see your pin and know that it is your blog.
The ideal size of your Pins
It is very important to follow a pattern in the size of the images; the vertical images are 80% more shared than the horizontal ones.
The ideal size of a pin starts at the ratio 2: 3, this measure can be found at Canva.com.
But if the design is not your thing and you are wanting to start NOW to publish your pins to give visibility to your website and generate more traffic with Pinterest, I bring you an excellent solution:

Step 8. The number of pins matters.
On Pinterest, perseverance is the key and making a pin on a daily basis is essential, the recommended is between 15 and 50 pines a day distributed throughout the day.
In the very beginning, your main exercise on the platform would be to pin as much content as is requisite for the day. Slowly over time, you will discover a variety of more diverse pins coming your way, simply because of the content you are putting out there. With a high volume of pinning activity, consistency is key here. It is crucial to stick to a schedule to develop a strong following within the Pinterest community.
To achieve a good publication schedule, the best tool is Tailwind . Learn how to use Tailwind for the first time in this post.
With it, you can program your pins, following the suggested schedules recommended by your team of experts so they have greater visibility.

Step 9. Group boards, what are they for?
